Dog Training Musts You Need To Know About
Training a dog to properly obey commands and behave well in a variety of settings is a commitment that pays off over time. Through my dog training Tampa courses, I teach dogs and their owners how to achieve success with their goals. Reinforcing what is learned in lessons, however, is essential for continued good behaviors. Knowing what to do and how to do it right can make all the difference between a well trained dog and one that carries bad habits that don’t seem to go away.
At Elite Dog Academy, the mission is simple: to help dogs and owners create lasting relationships that are strong. I help achieve this goal through my dog and puppy training Tampa classes, but owners do need to reinforce lessons learned when they return to their normal routines.
So, how do I suggest owners do this? It all comes down to a few musts of dog training. They are:
Establishing dominance – Dogs are pack animals. This means they follow and respect a pecking order when it comes to authority. To successfully train and handle a dog, an owner must establish dominance. This doesn’t mean being harsh or hurtful to an animal; it means being firm and consistent in behaviors. Through Elite Dog Academy’s dog obedience training Tampa sessions, owners will learn how to achieve this goal.
Praise frequently and often – Dogs are loving companions that thrive on praise. When owners consistently praise their dogs for good behaviors they reinforce the desire to see repeats. Praise, treats and rewards are all vital training tools, but praise is the most important for training.
Stay calm – Dogs react to their owners moods. When owners lose their tempers and react improperly to situations, dogs will too. Remain calm, but firm during training to see the desired results. This helps show a dog who is in control and can reinforce lessons learn in my dog training Tampa sessions beautifully.
Don’t physically discipline – Dogs do not need physical discipline to learn good habits. They need firm and consistent reinforcement of good behaviors and proper steps to break bad ones. During my dog board and train Tampa program and other training courses, we’ll work together on proper discipline for successful training.
Remain consistent – Don’t backtrack on previous household or behavior rules if you want to see good results over time. Dogs need consistency to better understand the world around them. If getting on the bed is a big no-no, make sure it stays that way always. This simply helps you and your dog establish stronger, more understandable boundaries for behavior.
